What’s opening in theaters next week

ARTHUR CHRISTMAS (PG): James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie and Jim Broadbent provide some of the voices in the computer-animated 3-D holiday tale about Santa Claus’ youngest son, who borrows his dad’s high-tech gift-delivery technology for a personal project.

HUGO (PG): The great Martin Scorsese directs his first 3-D movie and his first family-friendly film with this story about an orphan in 1930s Paris (Asa Butterfield) who uncovers a mystery linked to George Melies, the legendary pioneer of the birth of cinema. Chloe Moretz (Hit Girl from “Kick-Ass”), Ben Kingsley and Sasha Baron Cohen co-star. Features some of the most extraordinary 3-D effects ever filmed.

MY WEEK WITH MARILYN (R): Michelle Williams is certain to receive an Oscar-nomination for her uncanny portrayal of the late Marilyn Monroe in this fact-based tale about the icon’s relationship with a crew member on the set of “The Prince and the Showgirl” in 1956 London.

THE MUPPETS (PG): Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and the rest of Jim Henson’s indelible creations return for more big-screen glory. Amy Adams and Jason Segel are some of the humans sharing the screen.
