Car hits Brunswick woman in crosswalk, breaking her legs

By Staff, The Times Record

BRUNSWICK, Maine — A 49-year-old Brunswick woman was struck by a car while crossing Maine Street in a crosswalk Wednesday evening.

Linda Cockburn, 49, of 6 Lori Drive, was transported to Parkview Adventist Medical Center for treatment of what police believe to be broken legs following the incident, which occurred as she crossed Maine Street in a crosswalk near First Parish Church at approximately 5:45 p.m.

Michael Hoffman, 58, of 950 Cundy’s Harbor Road, Harpswell, was headed north on Maine Street and told police he did not see Cockburn as she stepped into the crosswalk from the east side of Maine Street, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan of the Brunswick Police Department said today.

Hoffman’s 2008 Toyota suffered no damage. The cause of the incident was determined to be failure to yield, but no charges will be filed, according to Hagan.

Cockburn’s condition was not available at press time today.
