BRADFORD, Maine — State police arrested a Bradford man Thursday and charged him with killing Hudson resident David Trask, a general contractor who was found dead near his pickup truck on Bear Road on Saturday afternoon.

Peter Robinson, 48, who lives on Bear Road, was charged with murder. He reportedly got into a fight with Trask, 71, on Saturday and beat him to death, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

“The State Medical Examiner’s Office said Trask died from blunt head injuries and they ruled the death a homicide,” McCausland said in a statement.

Detectives, assisted by game wardens and state troopers, took Robinson into custody around 3 p.m. after stopping him on his ATV near his home, McCausland said.

Robinson runs a local garage and detectives said the two men knew each other.

Robinson was taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor and is scheduled to make his first court appearance Friday morning.

Ruth Trask, David Trask’s wife of 52 years, said earlier this week that not knowing the circumstances around her husband’s death was “hard to deal with.”

“He was an amazing man,” she said. “He was a wonderful husband and the best father and grandfather there ever was.”

Trask was the owner of David P. Trask & Son Inc. of Hudson, where his son is the foreman, Ruth Trask said.

An autopsy was conducted Sunday on Trask’s body at the medical examiner’s office in Augusta and results were withheld until Thursday afternoon.

Ruth Trask said her husband worked all over the state building salt and sand sheds, fire stations and other buildings.

“He loved work,” she said. “He loved all the guys who worked with him and his son was the foreman” of the family-run general contracting business, which employed half a dozen.

Trask worked on his father’s dairy farm in his youth and later went into business for himself as a general contractor, according to his obituary.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth, with the Rev. Garnett Chute officiating.
