Carr leads WPI past Husson in men’s basketball

WORCESTER, Mass. — Matt Carr scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Worcester Polytechnical Institute rolled to an 86-44 men’s basketball victory over Husson University on Wednesday in the season opener for both teams.

Sam Longwell added 13 points and Marco Coppola had 10 for the Engineers.

Wes Murphy and Phil Leighton powered the Eagles with a dozen points each.

At Farmington, Zach O’Brien scored 19 points to pace the Monks of North Windham past the Beavers.

Chris Petzy contributed 13 points for the Monks (1-0). O’Brien and Petzy posted seven rebounds apiece.

Pet Sumner led the University of Maine-Farmington with 14 points, and Joe McCloskey added nine points and seven rebounds.

At Farmington, Ashley Geel recorded 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Monks of North Windham.

Megan McDevitt added 11 points and five assists, and Lindsay Moore had 10 points.

Emma Morrison topped the 0-1 Beavers with 13 points, and Lindsay Ranquist had 11. Paige Saunders collected eight rebounds.
