Ohio burglar high on bath salts breaks into family’s home, puts up Christmas decorations

The Associated Press

VANDALIA, Ohio — Police say an Ohio man charged with breaking into a stranger’s home used a garden hose, hung a Christmas wreath on a back garage door and was found watching television amid lighted candles.

Terry Trent, 44, of Kettering faces a Montgomery County court hearing Tuesday on a burglary indictment.

Vandalia police say a co-worker said Trent may have used synthetic drugs called “bath salts” Oct. 15 when the home was broken into.

Police say the men were painting a nearby house when Trent became upset and left. They say he was found in the stranger’s home about an hour later by an 11-year-old boy returning from a pee-wee football game. The boy told investigators Trent said he didn’t mean to scare him.

A message left for Trent’s attorney after business hours Monday was not immediately returned.
