WINSLOW, Maine — A local man died in a single-car crash after the vehicle he was driving struck a tree on Friday night.

Daniel Clark, 19, was traveling northbound on the South Pond Road when he lost control of his copper Nissan 350z and hit a tree at about 10:45 p.m. He died instantly, said Winslow police patrolman Damon Lefferts.

“Alcohol and speed were factors,” said Lefferts, who added that Clark crashed about 200-300 yards from his home on the same road.

Clark was the only one in the car, said Lefferts.

“He was traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control and hit a tree that was about 10 feet off the road,” said Lefferts. “We believe he was trying to go home.”

Lefferts said an alcohol test was submitted on Saturday, but it takes 2-3 weeks to get back.

The posted speed limit on the road is 45 mph, he said.

Winslow police and fire as well as Delta Ambulance responded, said Lefferts.
