Outlook: The Black Bears open the Richard Barron era against the Blue Devils. UMaine is making a return after CCSU visited Orono for last year’s opener. UMaine actually has the experience edge in this one, but will get its first test in running its new offensive sets and playing pressure defense. The Bears are likely to work a handful of guards into the rotation, including freshmen Kelsey Mattice and Amber Dillon. The Blue Devils graduated their top five starters, who combined to average more than 45 points and 31 rebounds off a team that lost in the Northeast Conference semifinals. CCSU was 10-2 at home last season.
