Ryan McLaughlin wins BDN Football Forecast staff crown; Perkins takes guest title

By Pete Warner, BDN Staff

It was a testy final week in the 46th annual Bangor Daily News Football Forecast, but Ryan McLaughlin maintained his one-game lead to earn his first staff title.

McLaughlin, in his fourth season in the competition, turned in a 13-7 card to finish the season with a 162-38 record and an .810 winning percentage.

He finished one game ahead of runners-up John Holyoke (13-7) and Joe McLaughlin (15-5), both of whom wound up 161-39 (.805). Defending staff champion Pete Warner (14-6) slipped to fourth place at 160-40 (.800).

The rest of the staffers finished as follows: 5. Ernie Clark (157-43, .785), 6. Larry Mahoney (156-44, .780), 7. Andrew Neff (154-46, .770), 8. Dave Barber (151-49, .755), 9. Jim Goodness (149-51, .745).

Week 10 guest Mike Tuell of Orono wound up 12-8, leaving Week 9 guest Jerry Perkins’ 19-1 performance as the best of the fall. Perkins had inadvertently not been credited with a victory after that week.

David Baker of Glenburn was the guest runner-up after going 18-2, while Dave Michaud of Millinocket and Jeff Schools of Gray each went 17-3 with Jon Haws of Hampden 16-4, followed by Jon Shields of Bangor and David Morrill of Orrington 14-6, Charles Dickey of Hampden 13-7, Tuell (12-8) and Holden native Ben Beaulieu 11-9.
