MDI pajama sale and bed races set

BAR HARBOR, Maine — Wheeled beds will not be allowed in local stores this weekend, but pajama-wearing shoppers are welcome to leave their beds outside the door during an annual downtown sale event.

The local annual Early Bird Pajama Sale and Bed Races are scheduled to take place starting 6 a.m. Saturday.

The annual event, sponsored by the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce, offers discounts to shoppers wearing bed clothes at participating stores. The sale, now in its 17th year, will take place from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Participants in the bed races will assemble at the Village Green, where the bed and pajama parade will begin at 10 a.m. Pre-registration is required to participate in the race, which has been held in conjunction with the sale every year since 2008. Tastefully decorated beds and pajama outfits are encouraged. The parade will head down Main Street from the green to Cottage Street, where the bed races will begin immediately after.

Race participants will compete for prizes, trophies and bragging rights, according to chamber officials.

This year’s event is co-sponsored by Atlantic Oceanside Hotel & Conference Center, Bar Harbor Merchants Association and Acadia Shops.

More information about the sale and races is available online at the chamber’s website.
