HIGH SCHOOL

John Bapst

The winter sports mandatory informational meeting for all athletes interested in participating in a winter sport will be held Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the John Bapst auditorium. Following the informational meeting, there will be team-specific meetings in assigned classrooms. If there are any questions please call Athletic Director Rick Sinclair at 947-0313 ex. 157.

Central High School

The mandatory winter sports parents meeting for the parents of athletes interested in playing a winter sport will be held Nov. 15th at 6:00 p.m. at the Central High School gymnasium.

Brewer High School

The mandatory meeting for athletes and their parent/guardian will be held November 17th at 7 p.m. in the Brewer High School gymnasium. Tryouts and practices for winter sports begin Monday, Novemeber 21st and interested athletes are required to have a physical exam and proper permission and emergency cards turned in prior to participation

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

COLLEGE

GNAC

Mandy Avella (St. Joseph’s freshman) has been selected as swimming rookie of the week. She won 2 events and swam legs for both of the Monks’ winning relay teams, as they defeated Husson University on Saturday.

Mike Sanfillippo (St. Joseph’s senior) has been selected as men’s soccer GNAC player of the week. The four-year starter scored a goal in each of the Monks’ three tournament victories including the game-winner in the championship game against Norwich on Saturday.

Amber Dostie (St. Joseph’s freshman) named GNAC women’s cross country rookie of the week for the third time this season. She finished 11th in the 6K ECAC Cross Country Championship on Saturday. She pace the Monk’s in all six races this season and finished first three times.

LARGE SCHOOLS (Classes A-B)

Cody Chapman

A junior fullback and linebacker for the Bangor football team, Chapman ran the opening kickoff back 87 yards for a touchdown and also rushed for two other scores as the Rams advanced to the Eastern Maine Class A final with a 42-14 victory over Brunswick.

SMALL SCHOOLS (Classes C-D)

Brad Wilcox

A senior striker for the Bangor Christian boys soccer team, Wilcox scored his state-record 107th career goal Saturday to help the Patriots defeat Greenville 4-2 and win their third consecutive Class D state championship.

LARGE SCHOOLS (Classes A-B)

Liz Hintz, Erin Boulier, Denae Johnson, Tiffany Gray, Mia Smith

Bangor High School center backs Hintz and Boulier, outside backs Johnson and Gray and goalkeeper Smith combined to shut out Scarborough 4-0 as Bangor won its first ever Class A schoolgirl soccer championship. They limited the Red Storm to 11 shots requiring Smith to make only five saves. Bangor didn’t allow a goal in its four playoff victories. Hintz, Boulier and Smith are seniors, Johnson is a junior and Gray is a sophomore.

SMALL SCHOOLS (Classes C-D)

Brianna Speed, Max McHugh, Samantha Brownell

Central High School of Corinth senior center midfielder Speed and junior striker McHugh each had a goal and an assist and senior goalkeeper Brownell made 15 saves in Saturday’s 2-1 double-overtime win over St. Dom’s of Auburn that gave Central its first ever state schoolgirl soccer title. Brownell stopped four breakaways in the Class C title game.
