Traffic stop leads to arrest of Indian Island man

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

ORONO, Maine — A traffic stop early Sunday morning resulted in the arrest of an Indian Island man after police discovered his bail conditions don’t allow him to consume or possess alcohol.

Orono police Sgt. Scott Scripture said a vehicle driven by Tasheena Sapiel, 18, of Indian Island was pulled over for a defective brake light just after midnight Saturday, and Orono police Detective Andrew Whitehouse observed a male passenger exit the vehicle and place a bottle of alcohol in the trunk.

That man, Joey Evans, 21, of Indian Island, was arrested for violation of his probation and taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Monday.

Sapiel received a summons for alcohol transportation by a minor.
