BANGOR, Maine — An Aroostook County man was behind bars Monday after he and an accomplice took several items from Sears at the Bangor Mall on Sunday morning, police said.

According to information posted on the Bangor Police Department’s Facebook page, Officer Jason Linkletter responded to a call that two male suspects had concealed items from the cosmetics and fragrances counter, walked out of the store and placed the items in a car.

A description of the vehicle and license plate number were given, and other officers subsequently responded to back up Linkletter.

As Linkletter arrived, he was informed that one of the suspects was running across the parking lot. The man, Daniel Masters, 23, of Presque Isle, was arrested and a search of the vehicle yielded more than $300 worth of merchandise, which was recovered. A pry bar was also found in the vehicle.

The other man, whom police did not identify, was not arrested.

Masters was arrested and taken to the Penobscot County Jail, charged with misdemeanor theft, violation of bail and possession of burglar tools. He was also summoned for sale and use of drug paraphernalia.

Sunday’s incident came in the wake of two other shoplifting incidents a week apart at Sears. Those suspects remain at large.
