SEARSPORT, Maine — A Belfast man was flown to a Bangor hospital late Monday afternoon after suffering serious injuries in a single-vehicle accident on Brock Road.

Jonathan Carlson, 22, was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he was being treated for serious, possibly life-threatening, internal injuries, Searsport Police Chief Dick LeHaye said Monday night. Further information about Carlson’s medical condition was not immediately available.

Carlson was the driver of a 2003 Ford Ranger pickup truck involved in a rollover on a stretch of Brock Road between two sharp curves, LeHaye said. The truck, which was heading west, left the roadway, struck a utility pole and rolled at least two times, ejecting the driver.

Also injured was a passenger, 21-year-old Thorin Robbins, who is from the Belfast area but whose address was not immediately available, LeHaye said. Robbins was taken to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast, where he was treated and then released.

LeHaye said it was not immediately clear if either of the men were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

According to LeHaye, the accident was reported by a Brock Road resident about 5 p.m. but police believe it may have happened about 4:45 p.m., based on a report from a hunter who heard but did not see the accident.

LeHaye said the crash remains under investigation. He is being assisted by Searsport police Officer Eric Bonney and personnel from the Maine State Police, who have been asked to reconstruct the accident.

The pickup, which was demolished in the crash, has been impounded and will be examined as part of the accident investigation, he said.

Searsport fire and emergency medical personnel assisted at the accident scene.

Several Brock Road residents lost electrical power as a result of the accident, LeHaye said. Central Maine Power repair crews replaced the poles broken during the accident Monday night.
