Maine Maritime Academy, Husson football fall in season finales

CASTLETON, Vt. — Husson University gained a season-best 456 yards on offense Saturday, including 385 on the ground, but Castleton State scored three times in each half to earn a 40-20 Eastern Collegiate Football Conference victory.

Shane Brozowski completed 25 of 31 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns for the Spartans (4-5), including scoring throws of 35, 6 and 30 yards. Brandon Boyle caught nine passes for 109 yards, including a 6-yard TD.

Kash Keezer rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries and was 10-for-29 passing for 71 yards and two scores. Husson did not commit a turnover.

Ryan Dorso ran for 111 yards on 16 attempts, while Jack Hersom caught four balls for 27 yards, including a TD.

Castleton State built a 20-0 advantage, then answered after Husson (0-9) had scored on its last possession of the first half and its initial possession of the second half.

The Eagles made it 20-6 when Hersom hit Keezer with a 14-yard scoring pass with 10 seconds left in the second quarter. Husson then made it 20-12 early in the third quarter on Keezer’s 8-yard run.

However, Castleton scored twice in the third to restore a comfortable lead.

Stephan Dance made 13 tackles and Tobey Harrington had eight for the Eagles. John Osborne led the winners with 11 tackles.

COAST GUARD 52, MAINE MARITIME 15

At Castine, the Cadets scored 38 first-half points and rolled up 496 yards of offense on the day to blow out the Mariners in the teams’ mutual New England Football Conference finale.

Jarrod Owens completed 33 of 57 passes for 334 yards and four scores to lead 2-7 Coast Guard. His first-half TD throws were 2 yards ot Ryan Webster, 17 yards to Collis Brown, 9 yards to Eric Gerken (10 receptions, 84 yds.) and 46 yards to Casey Paris.

Tyler Hames made 17 receptions for 108 yards and ran 15 yards for a score.

Maine Maritime (4-5) managed only 252 total yards, paced by 71 yards on 13 carries from Ian Champeon. Bradley Reed was 5-for-13 passing good for 47 yards, including a 9-yard TD toss to Nate Duford.

Nick Bourassa ripped off a 78-yard kickoff return for a score for the Mariners. Frank True logged 10 tackles, including three for a loss of yardage, and Alex Hermes made nine.
