PORTLAND, Maine — Josh Jones, a former Husson University basketball standout who was drafted in the sixth round of the NBA Development League player draft Thursday, on Friday was traded to the Maine Red Claws.

The 6-foot-4-inch Jones, who played high high school basketball at Erskine Academy of South China, was traded to the Portland-based Red Claws from the Rio Grande Valley Vipers for Charles Okwandu of the University of Connecticut, Maine’s third-round draft choice.

The 2011 Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches and Writers Association Player of the Year and North Atlantic Conference player of the year, Jones signed an NBADL contract in September after attending a two-day national tryout in Louisville, Ky., and later participated in a tryout conducted by the Red Claws.

The Jefferson native averaged 19.2 points and 11.4 rebounds per game last winter while leading Husson to a 21-7 record and a berth in the NCAA Division III tournament.
