BANGOR, Maine — Beal College held an open house Friday to celebrate its 120th anniversary.

“The goal … was to educate prospective students and members of the community about our unique career training programs,” said Erin Leighton, director of admissions. “We wanted to provide an opportunity for people to come to the campus and apply. Part of knowing what college is the right fit for you is visiting the campus and we wanted to give prospective students that chance. We wanted to show the community our campus as well as educate them about the college and all that we do here.”

The event began with a complimentary breakfast, followed by a speech by President Allen Stehle. Those in attendance then were free to check out the college resource fair, a gathering of the faculty and advisers for each department at the college, as well as several institutions in the Bangor area including Bangor Adult Education, Bangor Career Center, FAME, Maine Educational Opportunity Center and the Penquis Childcare Research and Development Center. A luncheon buffet was followed by a full tour of the campus.

The event went so well that the college plans to make it an annual event, according to Leighton and Stehle.

“It was excellent,” Leighton said. “We had about 70 people show up for the event. Prospective students and members of the community attended. It exceeded our expectations.”

“It was great to open our doors and show the community our campus and everything that we are about,” Stehle said.

It was the first open house the college has held since 2005, after moving to its location on 99 Farm Road.
