Guidelines for posting on bangordailynews.com

The Bangor Daily News encourages comments about stories, but you must follow our terms of service.

In brief:

1. Keep it civil and stay on topic
2. No vulgarity, racial slurs, name-calling or personal attacks.
3. People who harass others or joke about tragedies will be blocked.

The primary rule here is pretty simple: Treat others with the same respect you'd want for yourself. Here are some guidelines (see more):

It should be noted this is not a comprehensive list.

• Don't insult one another or the subjects of BDN stories. You may be ticked off at what someone did or said, but you can explain that without resorting to name-calling or obscenity. Remember that young people are on this site too.
• That nasty line that makes your buddies go "haw, haw"? You're better than that.
• Comments should be your own work, not copied and pasted from elsewhere, though brief quoted passages to make your point are fine. And please don't use all capital letters. There's no need to shout.
• Stay focused on the issue in the article. Off-topic posts will be deleted.
• This isn't a forum to chat about your personal life.
• Some ideas — the fate of the earth, abortion, gun control, the nature of God — aren't going to be resolved in a reader forum, so no need to get frustrated if others don't see your point of view. State your position once and leave it at that.
• If you mouse over each comment you will see a "Flag" button. Please use it if you feel comments on the site are out of line. Quite often, we won't see a comment until it's reported.
• Questions about why a comment was — or wasn't — deleted? E-mail us at web@bangordailynews.com and let us know your username and where you posted or saw the comment.

That's about it: Stick to writing about the stories; be civil; be kind; enlighten your neighbors. And we'll keep moderating posts to try to ensure everyone meets those standards.

  How can you say the area that it happen is false? I happen to know the two houses that were broken into & one of them was my mothers house. I will check on the names.

  Kinda funny that the one who says they got the wrong names, kinda has the same last name. But spelled with an “O” & not a “U”. The truth will come out soon enough.

  Who do you mean by “we”?? The only one confused is the guy who tried to blame this on Obama.  Ms. “Roshto” (or is it Rushto, like the perp’s name?) shouldn’t have even commented on this because it’s pretty clear where her alliances are.  (Seriously, did you think we wouldn’t notice the last name thing??)  I’m sorry to say it, but making comments that are not true and are then followed up by evasive answers, are only going to invite more questions and criticisms from the general public.  

  As for Rabbit’s comments, I’ve known him and his mother all my life.  She has faced a lot of personal challenges the last few years, and she is a very strong lady.  But she is also one of the kindest people I know, and she does NOT deserve this happening to her.

  @Jack_Knoph – Since I was a kid, I’ve seen people from “away” come up here to get away from the trouble they are in with the cops in say, Florida or Massachusetts.  But they bring their criminal activity to a small town like this, and that is their first mistake.  Because EVERYONE knows someone who knows a relative of who was involved (and people tend to listen to their police scanners a lot).  Theft and drug dealing have been increasing in this area all my life and it has nothing to do with who is President.  If you would like to follow up with an intelligent comment about this story, please do.

  Couldn’t have said it better myself. Not to take away or add, because I don’t know the lady who posted. I’m guessing she is related, but I have heard she is also a kind & caring person. Just what I’ve heard, don’t know her at all. Might never know why she posted, but it could be a way of reaching out. Kinda hard when you love the one you raised, but in turn dislike the way they become. That’s a spot I hope I never have to be in. 
  You’re so right, there is very few secrets in small towns. By 6am the news was from the top of Maine to Florida to L.A. & all I can say is, jail just might be the safest place for him right now. Mom has touched a lots of peoples heart & helped folks whom she never knew their names. When life goes from peaceful to scary, it can upset folks who don’t think straight before a few cups of coffee.

  I don’t think I called Ms. Roshto’s character into question.  But I wanted to make the point that she went from saying this story was completely inaccurate to her last comment that she was sure they had caught the right guy.  And the similarity of the name was a glaring issue.

  Okay, I think we have this all into confusion. Yes, relative I am, I was confused on the article. He, himself is not from Island Falls, he’s from Crystal, and yes, the last name is spelled wrong. I am very very sorry for what disrespect I have caused you, but no, I am not his mother. I am his niece, so please, take pity on the 14 aged girl that is now getting gained upon by adults.   Maria, You are not in control of what others do & you should not feel like you need to say you’re sorry. If anyone says one negative word to you, let them know that I will stick up for you. Being related to someone is not a reason for you to be bullied. 14 or 40 makes no difference to me. You have not been disrespectful in any way that I can see. You let me know if anyone punks on you & I’ll take care of it. Hold your head up high & be proud of who you are. One of the homes he broke into was my mom’s & I know she would not be upset with you. I had also heard his mother was a nice lady. No one should be upset at her also. Keep in touch & hold your head up. You done nothing wrong at all.
