SELAH, Wash. — A 51-year-old ninth-grade teacher in Selah has resigned after a hidden camera was found underneath a student’s desk.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reports that Dave McMillen’s resignation is part of a settlement he reached with the Selah school board.
McMillen was put on administrative leave from his job at Selah Junior High School after students complained to their principal on Oct. 13. Police told KIMA they believed the camera had been hidden with the intent to look up girls’ skirts.
Police obtained a search warrant to search McMillen’s Selah home and took several electronic devices.
Selah police Chief Stacy Dwarshuis says it’s not a crime for a person to own a camera, but that authorities are looking into the incident as a case of voyeurism, and Selah Police informed the station they are still looking into the memory cards and computers acquired with a search warrant from the teacher’s home.
