Deadline change for absentee voting noted

By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — Because of a recent state election law change, absentee ballot requests for no cause must have been received by the end of the business day on Thursday, Nov. 3, according to Bangor City Clerk Patti Dubois.

The change, which sets a cutoff date for accepting absentee ballot requests, affects the city’s schedule for early voting, which began Monday, Dubois said. Early voting hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Bangor Civic Center.

Dubois said Monday that she wanted to make sure voters were aware of the new cutoff because until now, voters were able to request absentee ballots through Election Day itself.

The other change Dubois wanted to remind voters about involves access to the civic center.

She said the Dutton Street entrance is closed because of construction at Bass Park and that voters instead must use the Buck Street entrance.
