PORTLAND, Maine — Maine utility regulators plan to hold a hearing this week on a proposed $9.3 million rate increase by natural gas transmission company Northern Utilities Inc.

The Public Utilities Commission will hold a public hearing Wednesday in Portland.

The PUC says this is the first base rate case for Northern Utilities in 28 years.

The state Office of the Public Advocate is recommending an increase of $7.4 million.
