VAN BUREN — The fifth-seeded Van Buren Crusaders upset the No. 1 Washburn Beavers 2-1 when Haley Lizotte converted off an indirect kick with less than five minutes remaining in an Eastern Maine Class D girls soccer quarterfinal Friday.
Felisha Bouchard scored a first-half goal for Van Buren as Parise Rossignol played the ball into the box on a throw-in and Bouchard buried it into the back of the net.
Mackenzie Worcester tied the game at 1-1 for Washburn with 9:00 left in the game. She picked up a deflected shot, split two defenders and blasted a shot into the left side of the goal.
Minutes later officials called obstruction on Washburn and granted the Crusaders a indirect kick from 18 yards out.
Brittany Duprey touched the ball and pushed it to Lizotte, who netted her shot.
Ashley Wilson made 14 saves on 20 shots for 11-5 Van Buren. Rayah Saucier faced two shots and didn’t have any saves for the 14-1-1 Beavers.
