New Sweden man dies in ATV accident in Stockholm

STOCKHOLM, Maine — The body of a New Sweden man was found next to his all terrain vehicle about 9 a.m. Saturday by deer hunters, according to the Maine Warden Service.

Bruce Johnson, 46, had not been reported missing, a press release issued Saturday afternoon said. He was last seen about 4 p.m. Friday.

“It appears that while driving his ATV during the night, he lost control of his Yamaha Grizzly 700 ATV and flipped the machine, killing him instantly,” the press release said.

The ATV was severely damaged.

He was not wearing a helmet and appeared to have suffered head trauma, the Warden Service said in the press release.

Johnson apparently came upon debris from a fallen tree too quickly. When he tried to avoid the debris, he lost control.

Johnson’s body was transported to Caribou where the state medical examiner’s office will conduct an examination.

Sgt. Durward Humphrey is in charge of the investigation. He is being assisted by Wardens Ryan Fitzpatrick and Gary Sibley.
