Levant woman charged in handcuffs theft

By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A Levant woman found herself wearing the real thing after she allegedly tried to shoplift a set of novelty handcuffs Thursday during a visit to Spencer’s Gifts at the Bangor Mall.

A store employee called Bangor police after reportedly seeing Maureen Clink remove the $15 handcuffs from a display and then conceal them in her purse, Bangor police Lt. Steve Hunt said Friday, citing a police report. He said the cuffs remained in Clink’s purse while she paid for other merchandise she had selected.

When confronted by Spencer’s staff, Clink turned over the handcuffs, Hunt said. He said she refused to answer questions posed to her by a police officer. Clink, who was taken to Penobscot County Jail after her arrest, since has been released on bail.
