Occupy Maine protester ‘goofing around’ with alleged knife threat

The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Maine — A protester with Occupy Augusta Maine has been charged with threatening another protester with a knife.

The suspect says he was joking.

Police say 27-year-old Anthony Williams was at a gas station about a mile from the protest site on Saturday night when he asked the other man for a ride. The alleged victim told police when he told Williams no, Williams held the nine-inch knife at the other’s man’s stomach and demanded a ride.

Williams told WGME-TV he had been drinking, thought he knew the other man and was just “goofing around.”

He said he borrowed the knife that is used to cut rope from another protester.

Authorities said Williams is being held on $10,000 bond charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.
