BANGOR, Maine — Penobscot Theatre will continue its 38th season with one of the most popular musicals of the last 15 years, “The Marvelous Wonderettes” by Roger Bean.
Picking up where “Forever Plaid” left off, “The Marvelous Wonderettes” will assemble a quartet performing the ’50s and ’60s hits that were popularized by women Oct. 26-Nov. 13 at the Bangor Opera House, 131 Main St.
“‘The Marvelous Wonderettes’ has everything you could want in a musical — a great score, beautiful design elements, a hilarious, yet meaningful story and an incredibly talented cast that delivers amazing vocals and crisp choreography,” said Interim Artistic Director Nathan Halvorson.
“The Marvelous Wonderettes” will take the audience to the 1958 Springfield High School prom to meet the Wonderettes, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts, and voices to match. Treats include the girls performing such classic ‘50s and ‘60s songs as “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” “Stupid Cupid,” “Lipstick on Your Collar,” “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me,” “It’s My Party,” “Son of a Preacher Man” and more than 20 other classic hits. It all adds up to an unforgettable, must-take musical trip down memory lane.
For the fourth year in a row, PTC will take part in Free Night of Theater, a national initiative of Theatre Communications Group, designed to introduce the magic of live theater to new audiences. PTC will give away 200 tickets to “The Marvelous Wonderettes” for first-time theater attendees during the first week of performances.
