Belfast winter parking ban going into effect Nov. 1

By Abigail Curtis, BDN Staff

BELFAST, Maine — The city’s annual winter parking ban will go into effect on Nov. 1 and remain in effect until April 30, 2011, according to the Belfast Police Department. Any vehicle parked longer than an hour on any city street between midnight and 6 a.m. will be ticketed or towed at the owners expense.

Residents can park overnight in the municipal parking lots at Cross Street, Beaver Street and Washington Street, but are requested to follow special instructions to facilitate winter snow removal.

At the Beaver Street lot, vehicles should park next to the Belfast Opera House building and, on the day after a storm, park next to the courthouse.

At the Cross Street lot, vehicles should park in the middle of the lot overnight and during snowstorms. The day after a storm, please move vehicles to the outside edge of the lot.

At the Washington Street lot, vehicles should park on the street edge overnight and during storms. The day after a storm, please move vehicles to the middle of the lot.

For more information, please contact the Belfast Police Department at 338-5255.
