BAR HARBOR, Maine — The local Town Council made a unanimous pick Tuesday night to fill a vacancy on the panel.

Enoch Albert was appointed by a 6-0 council vote after members met in executive session Tuesday night. Albert is expected to fill a vacancy left on the board when former Town Councilor Matt Horton resigned in August due to unspecified health reasons.

Local voters will get the chance to elect someone to Horton’s former seat at the annual Bar Harbor town meeting next June. Horton’s term was due to expire in June 2013.

Local attorney Phil Worden also had expressed an interest in the appointment. Both Albert and Worden sat outside the council meeting room Tuesday night while the council deliberated in private. After the council came out of executive session and then voted to appoint Albert, Worden congratulated him on being picked.

According to committee applications that Albert has submitted to the town in recent years, the new councilor has a master’s degree in zoology and has taught in the University of Maine System and at the high school level. He also is a registered nurse, having retired from Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta in 2006.

Worden is a local attorney who has practiced law in the Mount Desert Island area for several years.
