CHARLES E. ‘GENE’ COOLEY

ST. ALBANS – Charles E. Cooley, 90, died Oct. 18, 2011, at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born Oct. 29, 1920, in Milo, a son of Chester and Hattie (Mountain) Cooley.

He was a lifelong farmer at the farm he had lived at since age 9, and loved his John Deere tractors. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Gene was a member of the American Legion, Grange and Sno-Devils Snowmobile Club. He will be remembered as a man who never said no to his neighbors.

He is survived by his wife, Selinda Louise Cooley of St. Albans; a son, Charles E. Cooley and wife, Jenette, of Dixmont; three daughters, Priscilla "Patty" Roberts of Corinna, Phyllis Ellison and husband, John, of Etna and Judy Mahar and husband, Michael, of St. Albans; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Hattie Larrabee; a brother, Clifton; and a granddaughter, SueLynn Bolstridge.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna, with the Rev. Robert Herring officiating. Friends may call noon until the time of service. Burial will be at Nutter Cemetery, Corinna.
