Virginia man wins MDI Marathon

SOUTHWEST HARBOR, Maine — Michael Wardian, a 37-year-old from Arlington, Va., claimed victory at the Mount Desert Island Marathon on Sunday.

Wardian covered the 26.2 miles from Bar Harbor to Southwest Harbor in 2 hours, 32 minutes, 36 seconds, five minutes ahead of runner-up David Herr of Canaan, Vt.

Mathew Frongillo of Seal Harbor finished third, while Erik McCarthy of Orono and Robert Shaw of Boston rounded out the top five.

For the women, Leah Jabbour of Nova Scotia earned the win in 3:01:22, while Rockland’s Amanda LaBelle was second with 3:08:28.

Rounding out the top five were Kara Gaston of Mariaville, Anita Moller of Clinton, N.Y., and Kristine Guaraldo of South Portland.

The race had 924 finishers.
