LUBEC – Viola Frances (Morrison) Cheney, 86, wife of Roland passed away peacefully Oct. 16, 2011, with her loving family by her side at a Lubec nursing home. She was born Jan. 2, 1925, in Lubec, daughter of the late Paul and Eva (Hiltz) Morrison.
Vi was a graduate of Lubec High School, Class of 1943. She was employed as a bookkeeper at many local businesses, her last job was held at Booth Fisheries for 27 years. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Lubec. Vi enjoyed knitting, sewing, dancing, gardening, baking and family gatherings. She had also become very fond of her special caregivers.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Pauline Lewis and Irene Sheehan; and a brother, Bernard Morrison. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, Roland; her son, Joseph and his wife, Helen, of Veazie; her daughter, Anne Seavey and her husband, Roger, of Lubec; grandchildren, Katie Greenlaw and her husband, Mark, Evan Seavey and his wife, Brianne, Gregory Cheney and Allison Cheney; great-grandchildren, Jade, Alyssa, Ryan and Rob Greenlaw, and Ethan and Josie Chute; a sister-in-law, Ella Robinson; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lubec, with the Very Rev. Eugene Gaffey, celebrant. Friends may call 10 a.m. until time of Mass at the church. Burial will be after at Greenlawn Cemetery, Lubec. Donations in Vi’s memory may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, P.O. Box 144, Lubec, ME 04652. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Machias and Lubec.
