EAST MILLINOCKET – Melvena (Hunter) McAdam, 97, passed away Oct. 15, 2011. Mel was born March 2, 1914, in East Millinocket, daughter of Fred and Lena (Fortine) Hunter.

She attended school in East Millinocket and then worked in a local hotel until she married Charles McAdam when she was 18. Together they raised seven children, which was her full-time job. She was a very loving mother, grammy and great-grammy. She was a good cook and was willing to help anyone that needed it. There were always fresh baked goodies in her home. She was an avid Beano fan, it was her passion. She loved to cook and she loved to feed everyone. Her home was the gathering point for all the holidays. She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella.

Mel is survived by children, Janet Boynton of East Millinocket, Lorraine Ridge and husband, Ralph, of Bloomington, Ind., Kenneth McAdam and wife, Renate, of East Millinocket, Eugene and wife, Shirley, of East Millinocket and Patricia Trainor and husband, David, of Millinocket; brother, Lawrence Hunter and wife, Yolanda, of East Millinocket; two daughters-in-law, Jackie McAdam of Millinocket and Marlene McAdam of East Millinocket; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Margaret Fayle. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles; sons, Robert and David; son-in-law, Walter "Billy" Boynton; two grandchildren, Karen Boynton and Shawn McAdam; two stepgrandchildren, Joe and Jim Timoney; a great-stepgrandchild, Matthew Couture; brothers, Alvah, Charles and Clarence Hunter; sisters, Laura, Arlene and Elsie; and half sister, Irene. The family would like to especially remember Voight Freeman, a very close friend and caregiver. They would also like to thank Home Health Care of East Millinocket for the wonderful help they were; Colonial Health Care for exceptional care and service; and Penobscot Valley Hospital for the best care she ever received.

Friends may visit with the family 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Lamson Funeral Home, 17 Western Ave., East Millinocket, where a rosary service will be conducted 7 p.m. by St. Ann’s Circle, Daughters of Isabella. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 58 Cedar St., East Millinocket.
