Alves sparks Hartford women’s soccer past UMaine


WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Caitlin Alves scored two goals and assisted on the third Thursday night, sparking the University of Hartford to a 3-0 America East women’s soccer victory over the University of Maine.

Alves scored off a long pass from Shealagh Begley at 19:43 of the first half, giving the Hawks (12-0-2, 5-0 AE) the only goal they would need. Alves set up a Mary Beth Hamilton goal 20 seconds into the second half and scored on assists from Hamilton and Amelia Pereira 17 minutes later.

Erin Quinlan made five saves on six shots.

Meagan Price-Leibenzeder made one save on seven shots for UMaine (4-7-1, 1-4 AE).
