American Mathematics Competitions coming to Maine

The American Mathematics Competitions, the oldest and most prestigious mathematics competition in the country, will make appearances at Husson University in Bangor, the University of Maine at Presque Isle and the University of Southern Maine this fall.

The event is the oldest and most prestigious nationwide mathematics competition in the United States. It started in 1950 and has been the exclusive pathway for a student to advance to the USA Mathematical Olympiad.

The competitions will kick off on Nov. 15 with AMC 8, which is slated for students in grades four through eight. Students may participate at their school if it is registered for the competition.

If not, students must compete at one of the following locations: Husson University, Peabody Hall, Room 340, 2 p.m.; UMPI, 105 Folsom Hall, 12:30 p.m., USM, Payson Smith Hall, Room 303, 1:15 p.m. Parents and students may come to Room 301A if they arrive before 1:15p.m., and it will be used for a reception and waiting area from 12:15 to 2:30 p.m.
