Dover-Foxcroft woman impaled by tree branch in July dies at EMMC

BANGOR, Maine — Rory Schmand, 47, of Dover-Foxcroft, who was impaled by a tree branch during a heavy thundershower in July, died Wednesday morning at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Schmand was critically injured July 6 when a tree branch crashed through the windshield of her vehicle on the Douty Hill Road and impaled her between the eyes, according to police. She was airlifted to EMMC, where she had remained since the accident.

The state medical examiner’s office notified the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department of her death Wednesday morning, according to Investigator Sgt. Michael Gould.
