Heating oil price drops in latest Maine survey

AUGUSTA, Maine — The latest heating oil survey by the state of Maine indicates prices have dropped 6 cents per gallon since the season’s first survey last week.

The Governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security said Tuesday that its weekly survey put the average price at $3.44 per gallon.

That’s still nearly 80 cents higher than it was around the same time last year, and Director Kent Fletcher said people should be taking steps to reduce fuel consumption. That includes doing furnace maintenance and ensuring that insulation and caulking is in good shape.

He says Mainers should have a better idea of the energy outlook when the Department of Energy releases its winter outlook later this week.
