DOVER-FOXCROFT – Arline E. Bishop, 91, passed away Oct. 7, 2011, at Hibbard’s Nursing Home, Dover-Foxcroft.
She was born Sept. 30, 1920, in Dover-Foxcroft, a daughter of Emmons H. and Doris (McPherson) Brown.
She was educated in local schools and graduated from Foxcroft Academy. Arline married James P. Bishop Aug. 7, 1949, at Sebec Lake, and began raising her family. Through the years she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and especially preparing wonderful home cooked meals at holidays and any occasion for her family and for anyone who showed up at mealtime. Arline loved to dance and even after she was 90 would dance with anyone who could keep up with her. After raising her family she worked for several years at Lanpher’s Drug Store, Koritsky’s Department Store, and at the family owned Bishop’s Clothing Store. Up until just a couple of years ago, she enjoyed and took great pride in volunteering at Hibbard’s Nursing Home and was recognized annually for her work. Arline was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club, Mocutoc Club, and a longtime member of United Methodist Church.
Arline was predeceased by her husband, James, in 1996; and by her brother, Merle Brown. She is survived by a daughter, Doris Jane Powell, who became her primary caregiver and allowed Arline to live a dignified, productive and comfortable life, and her husband, Dane, of Dover-Foxcroft; three sons, Lionel and his wife, Gail, of Saco, Daniel and his wife, Catrena, of East Corinth and Peter J. Bishop of Greenville Junction; a brother, Joseph Brown of Greenville; a sister-in-law, Nina Conklin of Augusta; eight grandchildren, Jamie Bray and his wife, Heidi, Kyle Bray, Sarah Bray and her partner, Sam, Dane "Chip" Powell, Daniel Bishop and his partner, Tammy, Chris Bishop and his wife, Terry, Michele Johnson and her husband, Sidney, and Allyson Richards and her husband, Rick; seven great-grandchildren, Lily Bray, Wyatt Bray, Hannah Bray, Keegan Bray, Jordan Bishop, Cammeron Bishop and Kaycie Bishop; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft.
A funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Dover-Foxcroft United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Dodie Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at Dover Cemetery.
