CARIBOU, Maine — A local man is dead after his pickup truck crashed Tuesday into a house on Route 1 near the intersection of Route 161, according to police.

Robert Larson, 63, of Caribou was heading south in his 1998 GMC pickup when the truck left the roadway at about 1:30 p.m., hitting a house at 24 Patten St., according to Caribou police Chief Michael Gahagan.

Larson was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in the vehicle and no one was home at the time.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by Caribou Police Officer Kevin St. Peter, Gahagan said in a press release.

The truck was demolished in the crash and there was significant damage to the house, the release said.

Gahagan said police were assisted at the scene by members of the city’s fire department and by Warden Ryan Fitzpatrick of the Maine Warden Service.
