BANGOR — Nichole Rackliff, a student at Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor, will be studying abroad in Ireland as a George J. Mitchell Scholar. She will spend a semester abroad in Ireland at the University College Cork of the National University of Ireland on the south coast of Ireland.
Nichole, an Ellsworth native, will spend her time studying agriculture and business management to accompany her business studies at EMCC. She hopes that in the future she will be able to join Veterinarians Without Borders, an animal aid group.
Rackliff wrote in her application essay, “Studying abroad will give me experience in another culture that will prepare me for the many different cultures I will work with while volunteering with Veterinarians Without Borders.” The scholarship covers tuition, books and fees for students as well as about $900 per semester for living expenses.
Rackliffe will go to CIT for the spring semester with John Eder, a Portland native and student at Southern Maine Community College, who also received a Mitchell Scholarship. He will study community development while abroad.
