BIDDEFORD, Maine — Police say an apartment house fire has left one person dead and at least eight others homeless.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office reported that a 39-year-old man died in a fire that left a six-unit apartment complex heavily damaged on Main Street. The name of the man, who was in a first-floor apartment, is being withheld until relatives are notified.
Fire Chief Joe Warren said firefighters received a report of an explosion Tuesday evening.
Investigators were at the scene Tuesday night trying to determine the cause of the fire, which started in a second-story apartment. The investigation is expected to continue Wednesday.
The Red Cross says it’s working to arrange temporary housing for the eight who were left homeless.
