NEWPORT, Maine — A search warrant of a Moosehead Trail residence on Friday afternoon led to the seizure of 65 marijuana plants, said Lt. Randy Wing of the Newport Police Department.
John J. Scully Jr., 49, of Newport was charged with Class C possession of a schedule Z drug and Class D cultivation of marijuana.
The plants yielded 8.2 pounds undried marijuana, Wing said. Newport police also seized drug paraphernalia, cultivating equipment and five firearms, all rifles and shotguns.
Wing said Scully had two rooms in the residence dedicated to growing the marijuana.
Police obtained the search warrant after Wing saw the plants from an adjacent road.
“I viewed the plants from behind the residence on Barrows Point Road,” he said. “I was able to see the buds of the top portion of the plants.”
No other agency assisted the Newport Police Department in the raid.
Scully was not arrested. He is scheduled to appear at Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor on Nov. 17.
