BANGOR, Maine — An Ellsworth man pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court to possession of child pornography.
Thomas King, 42, was arrested in July after being indicted by a federal grand jury in Bangor. By pleading guilty, King admitted that he made video recordings two years ago of a female relative who was under the age of 12 at the time.
King remains free on bail pending sentencing. A sentencing date has not been set.
The pinhole video camera King used was placed inside a clock that was on a windowsill in the bathroom primarily used by the victim. King admitted Monday that he downloaded images captured by the camera to his laptop computer.
His suspected activities were reported to police in January after the camera in the clock was discovered by the girl’s mother.
The victim did not attend Monday’s 30-minute hearing, but her mother and other relatives did.
King has not been charged with sharing the images on the Internet. He told U.S. District Judge John Woodcock that the video of the victim was the only child pornography on his computers.
He faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
King agreed Monday to forfeit his computers and hard drives.
