Husson women’s soccer team wins two games


BANGOR — The Husson College Eagles recorded two women’s soccer victories over the weekend with a 3-1 win over Lyndon State on Sunday and a 1-0 verdict over Johnson State on Saturday.
On Sunday, Katelyn Cloutier put Husson on the board 8:20 into the game when she blasted a shot from the 18-yard line that caromed off a Lyndon defender and into the back of the net.
Katie DeShane added a goal off a Katie McLaughlin assist for 4-8 Husson and Alex Laniewski scored off a rebound from Emily Zurcher.
Jessica Poulin made five saves for Husson and Linda Libera scored a goal for 7-4 Lyndon.
On Saturday, Amanda Gifford headed in a Marcella Francoeur corner kick at the 90th minute to give the Eagles the victory.
Amber McCullock made seven saves for 7-2 Johnson State.

UMFK 8, Green Mtn. 0

At Poultney, Vt., Theresa Biggs scored two goals and Whitney Sinclair added two as UMaine-Fort Kent rolled on Saturday.
UM-Fort Kent improved to 7-0-1.
Jenn Colpits and Theresa Biggs each added a goal for UMFK, which outshot Green Mountain 28-4.

Boston U. 2, Maine 1
At Orono, Sunday, Tiya Gallegos and Taylor Krebs each scored a second-half goal to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead en route to the victory.
Maddie Hill scored a goal for 3-5-1 Maine and Meagan Price-Leibenzeder made seven saves. Kelly King made two saves for 10-2-1 BU.

UMPI wins two
At Canton, N.Y., the UMaine-Presque Isle Owls improved to 5-4 with a 5-1 win over SUNY-Canton on Friday and at 2-1 victory on Saturday.
Lainey Herring scored four goals in the Friday victory and Audra Kirk added one.

St. Joseph’s 8, Anna Maria 0
At Paxton, Mass., Saturday, Doe Leckie scored three goals and Elizabeth Calnan chipped in with two to lead the Monks of Standish.
Jennifer Keaney added a goal and an assist for the 5-2-2 winners and Katherine Chambers and Ashley Beaulieu had a goal apiece.
St. Joseph’s outshot Anna Maria 51-22 while Amanda Hevy made 22 saves for the 0-12 AMCATS.

Colby-Sawyer 2, UMF 0
At New London, N.H., Saturday, Andi Logan scored six minutes into the game and Adrienne Bender added one in the second half to lead Colby-Sawyer by UMaine-Farmington.
Beth Lebel made seven saves on 21 shots for 3-4-2 UMF and Shalyn Spencer made nine on 12 for 7-4 Colby-Sawyer.

UMF 2, NE College 2
At Henniker, N.H., Sunday, New England College scored two unanswered goals in the second half as the Pilgrims and the University of Maine at Farmington battled to a tie.
Kayla Tuttle and Alida Peake each scored a goal on free kicks in the first half for the 3-4-3 Beavers. Beth Lebel and Crystal Johnson combined for seven saves on 17 shots.

Colby-Sawyer 5, Thomas 0
At New London, N.H., Sunday, Liz Allen scored a goal and assisted on another as Colby-Sawyer College rolled past Thomas College.
Shalyn Spencer and Ekta Sampson combined for three saves on four shots for the 8-4 Chargers.
Kate Thibodeau made 12 saves on 24 shots for the 1-9 Terriers.

Men’s soccer
At South Portland, Saturday, Wadhah Al-Shammari scored what proved to be the winning goal at the 17:50 mark to lead Southern Maine Community College by Northern Maine Community College.
Chad McCarthy made 12 saves on 36 shots for NMCC.

At Auburn, Sunday, Jacob Lassonde scored the lone goal of the game at 61:05 as Northern Maine Community College defeated Central Maine Community College.
Kyle Murray tallied an assist for 1-7 NMCC. Chad McCarthy stopped eight of 20 shots.
Munawar Munawar made eight saves on 14 shots for 4-4-1 CMCC.

Emmanuel 1, St. Joseph’s 0
At Boston, Saturday, Kevin Shirley’s goal with 2:55 to play in overtime lifted Emmanuel by St. Joseph’s of Standish.
Garrett Charette and Wilheim Du Bois cmobined to make seven saves on 17 shots for 5-3-4 Emmanuel and Kenny Grade made four saves on six shots for 6-3 St. Joe’s.

UMF 4, Colby-Sawyer 1
At New London, N.H., Saturday, UMaine-Farmington scored four unanswered goals after trailing 1-0 en route to the victory.
Jordan Hale, Mike Kelly, Sean Raph and Matt Potter each scored a goal for 4-4 UMF and Tennessee Peters made four saves.
Clay Allen scored for 2-7-1 Colby-Sawyer and Will Berry made six saves.

UMass Boston 3, USM 0
At Boston, Stefanos Galouzis recorded a goal and assist and the UMass Boston defense held Southern Maine to just three shots en route to the victory.
Jeremy Turner and Alex Charette combined to make eight saves on 28 shots for 2-8 USM.

UMPI loses two
At Canton, N.Y., the UMaine-Presque Isle Owls dipped to 2-7 after losing to SUNY-Canton 4-0 on Friday and 2-1 on Saturday.
Jacob Paradis scored UMPI’s lone goal when he headed in a pass from Brandon Caverhill five minutes into Saturday’s game.

Husson 5, Johnson State 0
At Bangor, Saturday, Greg Dawson scored two goals while Phil Frost and Zach Emeigh each recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Eagles.
Keith McNamara added a goal for Husson, which outshot Johnson State 20-5.

Husson 3, Lyndon State 0
At Bangor, Sunday, Brian Potter stopped all six shots he faced and notched an assist as Husson University shut out Lyndon State College.
Greg Dawson, Zach Emeigh and Tyler Metevier each scored a goal for the 6-4-1 Eagles. Andrew Austin and Emeigh each added an assist.
Jason Gray made nine saves on 12 shots for the 4-7 Hornets.

UM-Farmington 2, NE College 0
At Henniker, N.H., Sunday, Jordan Hale notched two goals to propel the University of Maine at Farmington by New England College.
Luiz Ristow picked up an assist on Hale’s first goal for the 5-4 Beavers. Tennessee Peters stopped 10 of 17 shots.

Field Hockey
Saint Joseph’s 1, UMF 0
At Standish, Saturday, T.J. Cowin notched the only goal of the game at the 46:11 mark to lead Saint Joseph’s College by the University of Maine-Farmington.
Meaghan Johnson made six saves on 11 shots for the 6-2 Monks.
Curran Brierley stopped five of 13 shots for the 4-4 Beavers.

Maine 4, Albany 3
At Orono, Saturday, Kelly Newton scored the game-winning goal 2:53 into overtime to lift the University of Maine past the University at Albany.
Jocelyn Mitchell and Newton each scored a goal in the first half for the 11-1 Black Bears. Mitchell added a goal in the 55th minute on an assist from Stephanie Gardiner. Holly Stewart picked up two assists. Brittany Fleck stopped three of nine shots.
Kristi Troch made six saves on 11 shots for 8-4 Albany.

Husson 3, Thomas 2
At Bangor, Saturday, Mariah Arno tallied the winning goal with 1:02 remaining in the game to propel Husson University by Thomas College.
Lori Hiltz and Sabrina Vaillancourt each netted a goal for the 7-2 Eagles. Kristen Capen made two saves on four shots.
Ali Kriegel and Ally Kennedy each scored a goal for the 4-7 Terriers. Sofia Sourgiadakis blocked 11 of 14 shots.

Westfield State 2, USM 0
At Westfield, Mass., Saturday, Lauren Tavares and Jessi Gould each scored a goal to lead Westfield State University by the University of Southern Maine.
Amanda McCarthy made six saves on 12 shots for the 7-3 Owls.
Kayla Kennedy stopped 10 of 19 shots for the 6-6 Huskies.
