HERBERT DWIGHT GARDNER

ASHLAND – Herbert Dwight Gardner, affectionately known as "Beeb," born Sept. 11, 1919, in Ashland, died Sept. 30, 2011, at Maine Veterans Home, Bangor.

He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1946. Mr. Gardner was married to Alice Martin Gardner for 26 years until her death Nov. 20, 1970.

Herbert and Alice had four children. Mr. Gardner was a lifetime member of Ashland Advent Christian Church, Ashland. He served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member throughout his life. He was a land owner, pulp wood contractor and farmer.

He was predeceased by two children, Bruce and Bettina.

He is survived by a son, W. Michael Gardner and wife, Pam, of Villa Ridge, Mo.; and daughter, Karla Kurry and husband, Bob, of Brewer. He has three granddaughters, Rebecca Alice Jones and husband, Kevin, of St. Louis, Erin Louise Bunting and husband, Rob, of Monticello, Minn., and Sarah Elizabeth Gould and husband, Aaron, of St. Charles, Mo.; and two great-grandsons, Quinn and Connor Jones. Herbert has two surviving sisters, Marilyn Royal of North Berwick and Winifred Wilson of Berwick.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at Ashland Advent Christian Church, Ashland.
