PORTLAND, Maine — First lady Michelle Obama is paying a visit to Maine as part of her ongoing efforts to raise money for her husband’s re-election bid and for the Democratic Party.
Since mid-May, the first lady has headlined more than a dozen fundraisers from Vermont to California. She’s cramming in three more events in Maine and Rhode Island on Friday.
In Maine, she’ll meet with donors at a private home in Cape Elizabeth before headlining a Democratic rally at the Ocean Gateway terminal on Portland’s waterfront.
Mrs. Obama is proving to be successful at both energizing Democrats and raising money. More than a year out from Election Day, she is hauling in millions in campaign cash. The Portland rally requires a donation of at least $100, and up to $5,000, to attend.
