BANGOR, Maine — Sometime overnight Wednesday, a vandal or vandals using what police believe was a pellet or BB gun drove around town shooting the windows of Bangor cars and businesses, Sgt. Paul Edwards said Thursday.
Between 4 a.m. and 4:25 p.m. Thursday, police received 45 complaints of criminal mischief to vehicles and businesses, the sergeant said.
Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying who was involved, Edwards said, adding that the more information collected, the better the chance of catching those responsible.
“I feel like this was one of those crimes where there is more than one person involved,” he said.
The damage, which Edwards estimated would be in the thousands of dollars, occurred all over the city.
“There is no rhyme or reason,” he said.
Police believe a vehicle was used because of the distance between the areas hit, Edwards said.
“We’re not finding rocks or anything huge, so it seems to be a small projectile, perhaps an air gun, BB or pellet gun,” the sergeant said.
Two of the businesses hit were Tom T’s convenience store on Ohio Street, which had a damaged front window, and Papa Gambino’s on Hammond Street.
“It’s mostly cars,” Edwards said.
Those with information about the vandalism may call the Bangor Police Department at 947-7382. The department’s anonymous tip line can be reached by pressing ext. 6.
