HARPSWELL, Maine — Police say an 18-year-old man died when his car left the road in Harpswell and struck trees after he tried to avoid hitting a deer.

Cameron Vanvlack of Harpswell died at the scene of Wednesday night’s accident.

Police say he was alone in the vehicle, a Volkswagen Golf, when it crashed on Harpswell Neck Road.

The car left the road and struck one tree, causing it to flip and hit a second tree.

Police believe Vanvlack was trying to avoid hitting a deer when his car went out of control.
