Hundreds of dogs and their owners will parade along the Bangor Waterfront and Main Street on Saturday, Oct. 1, to raise funds for the Bangor Humane Society. The 18th annual Paws on Parade will have live demonstrations of agility dogs, costume and other pet contests, a runway highlighting some of the shelter’s current dogs available for adoption, and vendors.
Walkers include pet lovers, dogs of all shapes and sizes and plenty of Humane Society alumni.
The schedule is: 9-10 a.m., registration; 9 a.m.-1 p.m., vendors, raffles; 10-11 a.m., blessing, then parade; 11-11:30 a.m., costume contest; 12:15-12:30 p.m., announcement of contest winners; 11 a.m.-1 p.m., shelter dog runway show, agility demonstrations.
Prizes will be awarded for individual adults and teams that raise the most money. Door prizes will be given out at random times. The Bangor Humane Society will be closed for the day so that staff can participate in the walk and care for animals at the shelter.
People can register in advance at the shelter, online at pawsonparade.kintera.org or the day of the event.
