7 cruise ships headed to Portland

PORTLAND, Maine — Seven cruise ships carrying a total of 18,176 passengers are visiting Portland this week.

The Jewel of the Seas and the Carnival Glory have already arrived.

On Tuesday, the Caribbean Princess arrives for her maiden call to Portland carrying 3,080 passengers. Mayor Nicholas Mavodones along with members of the Discover Portland and Beyond cruise ship consortium will officially welcome the ship to Portland.

The Celebrity Summit will visit Wednesday before sailing on to Bar Harbor with 2,038 passengers.

Thursday, the Norwegian Jewel arrives in Portland. On Saturday, the Explorer of Seas arrives with 3,114 passengers and 1120 crew, carrying the most passengers of the cruise ships berthing in Portland this year.

Also Saturday, Explorer of the Seas will visit Portland and later sail for Bar Harbor.
