Crews from five departments battle Eddington blaze

EDDINGTON, Maine — Firefighters from Eddington and four nearby communities were on the scene of a house fire at 538 Main Road late Tuesday night.

The fire, which reportedly began near the chimney and was spreading to the roof, was reported shortly after 9 p.m., a dispatcher from the Penobscot Regional Communications Center confirmed Tuesday night.

Firefighters from Eddington, Brewer, Holden, Orrington and Dedham were expected to remain at the scene for several hours, the dispatcher said.

As of 10 p.m., no injuries had been reported. The elderly couple who reside in the house both made it out safely, though initial reports that one of them might still be inside was the cause of some concern.
