BANGOR, Maine β€” A 26-year-old Orrington man who allegedly was seen popping a wheelie and then crashing as he landed his motorcycle at around noon Sunday was taken to the hospital and later charged, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said on Monday.

Several eyewitnesses reported seeing Robert Coburn doing the wheelie on Farm Road as he approached Main Road, then losing control of his 2008 Suzuki motorcycle as he tried to land it, the sergeant said.

After dumping the bike, β€œhe skidded across the road,” Edwards said.

Coburn, who complained of chest and stomach pains, was taken to a local hospital, he said.

Officer Jim Dearing, who is trained in accident reconstruction, investigated the accident and, based on his preliminary report, Coburn was charged with speeding and raising his front tire off the ground, Edwards said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
